Volumes Decrease, Prices Continue to Increase: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 8 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 13,637 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 8, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 1.0% (-138 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 36.97 and was up 28.6% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 504.120 million, an increase of 27.1% (NOK 108.055 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Following a period of slowing volume growth, tonnes exported for the week declined on last year (rolling four week basis). This was only the second time in the previous 93 weeks with negative growth in tonnes exported (the other drop took place in week 3 this year). Prices for the week increased for the 19th week in a row on last year with the the weighted average price of NOK 36.97 for the week being the highest achieved for 93 weeks (since week 20 in 2011 when it hit NOK 38.85). The total value of exports hence also continued to increase on last year, driven by the increase in price, and represented the 39th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

Price Increases: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 7 2013)


Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,714 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 7, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported increased 4.2% (587 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week was NOK 36.05 and was up 33.0% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 530.463 million, an increase of 38.7% (NOK 143.610 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported continued to on last year, but yet again at a slower pace than previous week. Prices for the week increased for the 18th week in a row on last year with the YoY percentage increase (rolling four week average) for the week being the 4th in a row with an increase of more than 30%. The total value of exports hence also continued to increase on last year, driven again by especially the increase in price, and represented the 38th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis). The percentage YoY increase in the value of exports during the last six weeks are the highest since the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011.
