Weekly Price and Exports Surge to All-Time Record Highs: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 49 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 21,997 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 49, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 3.7% (773 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 45.52 was up 47.0% (NOK 13.05) year on year (YoY) on a rolling average four week basis. The NOK 45.52 price for the week was the highest weighted average price (fresh and frozen) ever reported based on weekly data starting in 2000.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 1,001.316 million, an increase of 41.9% (NOK 242.081 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis. This was the highest weekly value of exports ever recorded since 2000 and for the first time ever exports exceeded NOK 1 billion in a week. 

Following 11 weeks in a row with an increase in tonnes exported on last year (rolling four week basis), volumes have now declined for two consecutive weeks.

Prices for the week increased for the 60th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). For comparison purposes, prices increased for 154 consecutive weeks during the week 24 in 2008 to week 20 in 2011.

Due to continued YoY growth in prices, the total value of exports expanded on last year as well and increased for the 80th week in a row on last year (on a rolling four week basis). For comparison purposes, value of exports increased for 141 consecutive weeks during week 39 in 2008 to week 22 in 2011, so the current run in export growth is not a first.

Value of Exports Remains in Record Territory: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 45 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 18,872 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 45, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported increased 3.4% (635 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 38.61 was up 47.4% (NOK 12.51) year on year (YoY) on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 728.646 million, an increase of 52.4% (NOK 259.219 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Following 29 weeks in a row with a decline in tonnes exported on last year (rolling four week basis), it has now expanded for nine weeks in a row.

Prices for the week increased for the 56th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). 

As both tonnes exported and prices continue to expand, the total value of exports expanded on last year as well and increased for the 76th week in a row on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

Exports Continue to Grow near Record Territory: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 36 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 17,528 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 36, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 2.9% (-484 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 37.47 was up 42.5% (NOK 12.00) year on year (YoY) on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 656.785 million, an increase of 37.6% (NOK 177.367 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the 29th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis).

Prices for the week increased for the 47th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). 

As price growth remains substantially higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and increased for the 67th week in a row on last year (on a rolling four week basis). 

The trend in recent weeks is a slowing down of the percentage decline in volume on last year and a slowing down in the growth rate of prices. Growth on last year for the value of exports remains near record territory.

Value of Exports Surges 47.9% on Last Year (4 week average basis): Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 30 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,058 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 30, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 9.9% (-1,593 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 43.04 was up 64.4% (NOK 17.37) YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 605.118 million, an increase of 47.9% (NOK 207.192 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the 23rd week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis).

Prices for the week increased for the 41st week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). 

As price growth was substantially higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and increased for the 61st week in a row on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

Prices hit New All-Time High: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 27 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,573 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 27, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 18.2% (-3,218 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 45.10 was up 55.3% (NOK 15.04) YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 657.234 million, an increase of 27.0% (NOK 129.608 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the 20th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis).

Prices for the week increased for the 38th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). The weighted average price for the week of NOK 45.10 was the highest ever reported for the period covered.

As price growth was substantially higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and increased for the 58th week in a row on last year (on a rolling four week basis).
