Volume Down, Price Up on Last Year: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 11 2013)


Statistics Norway reported an export of 16,347 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 11, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 9.5% (-1,556 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 37.72 was up 31.0% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 616.569 million, an increase of 18.6% (NOK 88.011 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the fourth week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis) and the 9.5% decline for the week was the biggest since week 38 back in 2008. Prices for the week increased for the 22nd week in a row on last year. As price growth was higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and represented the 42nd week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

Volume Continues to Decrease while Prices Increase Further: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 10 2013)


Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,935 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 10, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 8.0% (-1,246 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 38.85 was up 30.2% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 580.218 million, an increase of 19.9% (NOK 89.644 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the third week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). Prices for the week increased for the 21st week in a row on last year with the weighted average price of NOK 38.85 for the week being the highest achieved since week 20 in 2011 (when it also was NOK 38.85). As price growth was higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and represented the 41st week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

Volume Continues to Decrease: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 9 2013)


Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,189 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 9, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 5.2% (-782 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 38.68 was up 28.0% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 528.044 million, an increase of 21.1% (NOK 90.321 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Following a period of slowing volume growth, tonnes exported for the week declined for the second week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). This was only the third time in the previous 94 weeks with negative growth in tonnes exported and the 5.2% decline for the week was the largest since week 11 back in 2009. Prices for the week increased for the 20th week in a row on last year with the weighted average price of NOK 38.68 for the week being the highest achieved since week 20 in 2011 (NOK 38.85). The total value of exports hence also continued to increase on last year, driven by the increase in price, and represented the 40th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).
