Volume Continues to Decrease: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 9 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 14,189 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 9, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 5.2% (-782 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 38.68 was up 28.0% YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 528.044 million, an increase of 21.1% (NOK 90.321 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Following a period of slowing volume growth, tonnes exported for the week declined for the second week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). This was only the third time in the previous 94 weeks with negative growth in tonnes exported and the 5.2% decline for the week was the largest since week 11 back in 2009. Prices for the week increased for the 20th week in a row on last year with the weighted average price of NOK 38.68 for the week being the highest achieved since week 20 in 2011 (NOK 38.85). The total value of exports hence also continued to increase on last year, driven by the increase in price, and represented the 40th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).
