Volumes Decrease, Prices Continue to Increase: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 8 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 13,637 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 8, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 1.0% (-138 tonnes) on the same period last year.

Following a period of slowing volume growth, tonnes exported for the week declined on last year (rolling four week basis). This was only the second time in the previous 93 weeks with negative growth in tonnes exported (the other drop took place in week 3 this year). Prices for the week increased for the 19th week in a row on last year with the the weighted average price of NOK 36.97 for the week being the highest achieved for 93 weeks (since week 20 in 2011 when it hit NOK 38.85). The total value of exports hence also continued to increase on last year, driven by the increase in price, and represented the 39th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).
