Prices above NOK 40 for the First Time in 100 weeks: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 15 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 13,771 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 15, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 11.7% (-1,843 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 42.21 was up 36.8% (NOK 10.48) YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 581.234 million, an increase of 20.8% (NOK 92.360 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the eight week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). Prices for the week increased for the 26th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis) and the NOK 42.21 weighted average price for the week was the highest recorded for 100 weeks (since week 19 in 2011 when it was NOK 40.04, prices have not been above NOK 40.00 since until now). As price growth again was higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and represented the 46th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).

The longer term trends (52 week moving average YoY percentage change) show tonnes exported increasing at a slower rate with the weighted average price and the value of exports increasing at an accelerated pace.

Please note: we reported last week that prices hit the highest level for 99 "months". This should of course have been 99 "weeks" instead of "months" (the report has since been corrected).
