Prices Hit 99 Week High: Norwegian Farmed Salmon Exports Weekly (week 14 2013)

Statistics Norway reported an export of 11,519 metric tonnes of fresh/chilled and frozen farmed salmon from Norwegian salmon farmers in week 14, 2013. On a rolling average four week basis volume in tonnes exported decreased 9.2% (-1,466 tonnes) on the same period last year.

The weighted average price per kilo for the week of NOK 39.83 was up 33.2% (NOK 9.43) YoY on a rolling average four week basis.

The value of exports for the week was NOK 458.800 million, an increase of 21.0% (NOK 94.584 million) on last year on a rolling average four week basis.

Tonnes exported for the week declined for the seventh week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis). Prices for the week increased for the 25th week in a row on last year (rolling four week basis) and the NOK 39.83 weighted average price for the week was the highest recorded for 99 weeks (since week 19 in 2011 when it was NOK 40.04). Driven by the YoY increases over the past 25 weeks, the longer term trend in price changes (52 week moving average YoY percentage change) is now finally above zero again (see bottom chart). As price growth was higher than the decline in volume, the total value of exports continued to increase on last year and represented the 45th week in a row with an increase on last year (on a rolling four week basis).
